Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. she is a TV anchor. She received an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including arms control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
